The theory of tournaments is a very active field and it has many practical applications, e.g., sports contests, lobbying, labor tournaments, patent races. The course has two parts:

1 - In several lectures, it gives an introduction to the microeconomic theory of tournaments, following the book “Strategy and Dynamics in Contests” (Oxford University Press, 2009) by Kai Konrad.

2 - Each student will study a selected research paper from the tournament literature. The results will be presented in the form of an oral presentation and a seminar paper.
